Taris
Pioneering the field of drug-device convergence for targeted therapies.
Therapeutic Areas: Interstitial Cystitis (IC)/Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS)
Interstitial Cystitis ( IC)/Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) TARIS’ first system will be focused on the treatment of bladder diseases, specifically the pain and discomfort associated with Interstitial Cystitis ( IC)/Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS). While the exact number of people with IC/PBS is unknown, it is estimated that more than 4 million people in the U.S. alone suffer with this painful and debilitating disease for which there is no cure and insufficient treatment options. While IC/PBS can affect any age, race or sex, it is most commonly diagnosed in women (approx. 3-6% of U.S. women age 18 or over meet criteria for IC/PBS) and the mean age at diagnosis is 44 years.
IC/PBS is a bladder disease associated with significant pain and disability, as well as urinary urgency and/or frequency. People with severe cases of IC/PBS may urinate as many as 25-60 times a day, including frequent nighttime urination (nocturia). IC/PBS can dramatically impact quality of life, including loss of work and reduced sexual intimacy. IC/PBS is associated with suicide rates five-to-seven times the national average. New therapeutic options for IC/PBS are desperately needed.
