A new paradigm in the treatment of bladder diseases

Pipeline: Ureteral Stent Pain/Voiding Dysfunction

In patients suffering from a kidney obstruction such as a kidney stone, an internal drainage tube (stent) is often placed in the ureter between the kidney and the bladder, to temporarily relieve the obstruction and maintain the flow of urine. While these stents are important in protecting the function of the kidneys, they can cause significant discomfort, pain and voiding dysfunction. Adverse symptoms related to uretal stents may affect over 80% of patients, and represent a substantial unmet medical need. Patients are treated with a variety of medications, including oral narcotics, but these agents are insufficient to manage these symptoms. TARIS believes the LiRIS system would represent a significant step forward in the management of stent-related symptoms and improve patient quality of life.
